📘 Present Perfect – Function & Formula

🔹 What is the Present Perfect used for?

We use the present perfect to talk about actions or experiences that:


  1. Happened at an unspecified time in the past
    👉 I have traveled to Mexico.
    👉 Malik has tried sushi.
    👉 Lina has taken a cooking class.
  2. Have a connection to now (present result)
    👉 Daniel has changed jobs. (Now he works somewhere new)
    👉 I have lost my keys. (I don’t have them now)
  3. Talk about life experiences (until now)
    👉 Have you ever visited another country?
    👉 I’ve never met a famous person.
  4. Talk about recent events (often with “just,” “already,” “yet”)
    👉 She has just finished her homework.
    👉 Have you eaten yet?
    👉 He has already left.

🔹 Formula:

Subject + have/has + past participle

Subject-Verb Agreement:

  • I, you, we, they = Have
  • He, she, it = Has

Examples:

  • I have visited three countries.
  • She has cooked a new dish.
  • We have learned a lot today.

❌ Negative:

  • I haven’t finished my homework.
  • He hasn’t traveled to Europe.

❓ Questions:

  • Have you met Lina?
  • Has Tara visited Canada?

🧩 Present Perfect Agreement Practice


Instructions: In this exercise, make sure to choose the correct auxiliary verb ("have" or "has") to agree with the subject. Remember:
  • Use "have" with I, you, we, and they.
  • Use "has" with he, she, and it.

Example:

  • I (have / has) finished my homework.
  • She (have / has) completed the assignment.
