What is the Present Perfect Tense?

It is a verb tense that connects the past and the present. It is used to describe an action or event that started in the past and is still relevant to the present.


How it works:

1. To Describe Actions That Occurred at an UNSPECIFIED Time in the Past:

The Present Perfect is used to talk about past actions or events that have a relevance or connection to the present moment with out revealing a specified time period.

1.I have visited Paris. (The exact time is not important.)

2. They have finished their work.

3. I have studied French.

4. She has traveled to Zacapa

5. It has been a wonderful day


2. Talking about experiences or accomplishments in a person’s life:

It is used to discuss experiences or accomplishments that have happened in a person’s life up until now.

  1. She has written three books.
  2. She has traveled to many countries.
  3. He has won several awards.
  4. We have graduated.

3. Describing actions that started in the past and continue into the present:

The Present Perfect can be used to describe actions or situations that started in the past and are still ongoing.

1. They have lived in this city for five years.
2. We have known each other since childhood.
3. She has worked for the company for 10 years.


4. Discussing recent events or actions:

It is used to talk about events or actions that have just happened or have a recent impact on the present.

1.I have just finished my work.
2. She has just finished reading that book
3. They have recently moved to a new house.


5. Talking about actions that have occurred before a specified time:

The Present Perfect can be used to indicate actions that have occurred at some point before a specific time mentioned or understood in the context.

1.She has already seen that movie.
2. He has already eaten lunch.
3. We have seen that movie before.
