Instructions: Read about Alex and Sam at the science fair. Notice how we use words like ‘smaller’, ‘bigger’, ‘quieter’, and ‘louder’ to compare their projects. After reading, complete the exercises at the end to practice using comparatives.
Today was a special day at Greenfield Elementary. Kids filled the gym. They were ready to show off their science projects. Everyone was happy and talking.
Alex got to the gym early. He had a model of the solar system. It was not big, but it looked just like the real planets and stars.
Then Sam came. She had a big volcano. When it erupted, it made a lot of noise and foam. It was bigger and louder than Alex’s model.
People came to see Sam’s volcano. It was exciting to watch. Alex’s model was smaller and didn’t make noise. But Alex liked it a lot. He worked hard on it. one more for this one
Mrs. Thompson, the science teacher, came to look at the projects. She saw Alex’s model. “This is very well done,” she said to Alex. He smiled big.
The science fair was just starting. But Alex felt happy. His model was smaller than Sam’s. It was quieter too. But he knew it was good because he worked very hard on it. one more for this last one
