B2 Oral Proficiency Test: Instructions and Evaluation Criteria
Instructions: In this test, you will answer a series of questions designed to assess your English language skills. The questions will cover various topics you’ve studied, and each response should reflect your comprehension, fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. You will be scored out of 100 points in total, with each skill worth 20 points. Take a moment to review the descriptions of each skill below so you understand what we’re looking for in your answers.

Skill Descriptions:
1. Comprehension (20 Points) ability to understand questions and respond appropriately
- What we’re looking for: Your ability to understand the questions fully and provide relevant, well-thought-out answers.
- How to excel: Listen carefully to each question, and make sure your response directly addresses the topic. If you need clarification, feel free to ask. Show that you understand not just the words, but also the underlying meaning or scenario behind each question.
2. Fluency (20 Points) ability to speak quickly, naturally, and with out many pauses
- What we’re looking for: Your ability to speak continuously and smoothly without unnecessary pauses or hesitations.
- How to excel: Try to speak at a natural pace and avoid overthinking your responses. Even if you need a moment to think, keep the flow of conversation going. Using linking words (like and, so, but) can help your responses sound more connected and fluid.
3. Grammar (20 Points) ability to use correct grammar and sentence structures
- What we’re looking for: Accurate use of grammar, especially the structures you’ve studied, such as conditionals, passive voice, and advanced verb tenses.
- How to excel: Pay attention to using the appropriate tense or structure for each response. Use complex sentences where appropriate, and try to demonstrate a range of grammatical forms, like conditionals and modals, to show your proficiency.
4. Vocabulary (20 Points) ability to understand and use vocabulary words and phrases
- What we’re looking for: A wide range of vocabulary used accurately and appropriately for the context of each question.
- How to excel: Try to use varied and specific vocabulary. Use any relevant phrasal verbs or idioms you’ve learned, and demonstrate that you can discuss different topics using precise and descriptive words. Avoid repetition, and aim to include some advanced vocabulary.
5. Pronunciation (20 Points) ability to use correct stress, rhythm, and intonation patterns
- What we’re looking for: Clear and accurate pronunciation, including correct stress and intonation, so that your responses are easy to understand.
- How to excel: Speak loudly enough and articulate clearly. Focus on the natural flow of English, paying attention to word stress and sentence intonation. Avoid mumbling, and make sure each word is distinct, especially when using new vocabulary.
Total Score: The maximum score is 100 points. Try to demonstrate your best language abilities across all skills.
